Installing ACL Analytics (perpetual license)

The following procedure outlines the steps for installing ACL Analytics if you have a perpetual license and a serial number. To install ACL Analytics if you have a subscription license, see Installing ACL Analytics (subscription license).

To install ACL Analytics (perpetual license):

Close all other Windows applications.
Double-click the ACL Analytics installation package: ACLAnalytics105_Desktop_<edition>.exe
The <edition> identifier indicates whether the executable file contains the non-Unicode or Unicode edition of ACL Analytics. Ensure that the edition you download and install is the correct edition for your organization.
If a security warning dialog box is displayed, verify the information listed, and click Run.
Select the language you want to use for your installation of ACL Analytics and click OK.
In the Setup Extraction Location page, specify the folder where the installation files will be extracted, and click Extract.
You can click Browse to select a folder, or accept the default location (C:\Program Files\ACL Software\Installers\ACLAnalytics105_Desktop_<edition>).

On computers running 64-bit operating systems the default program folder used by ACL Analytics is C:\Program Files (x86)\

The setup files are extracted to the destination folder you specified. After the files are extracted the setup wizard starts automatically. If the setup wizard fails to start automatically for any reason, you can use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder where the setup files were extracted and double-click setup.exe.

If you are reinstalling ACL Analytics and the Overwrite Protection dialog box appears, click Yes to All.
If you are prompted to install prerequisites, click Install. After the prerequisites are installed, the ACL Analytics installer automatically proceeds.
In the Welcome page, click Next.
In the License Agreement page, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
If the Destination Folder page appears, skip to step 14. ACL Analytics has been successfully activated using the serial number from a previously installed version.
In the License Information page, complete the following steps:
1. Unicode edition only. Select ACL Serial Number if it is not selected.
2. Enter your User Name, Organization, and the Serial Number provided by ACL.
3. Click Next.
  If a notification appears stating the serial number is invalid, click Retry and double-check that you entered the serial number correctly.
In the Information for ACL Licensing Server page, verify the information listed and click Next to activate ACL Analytics.
Activation may take a few moments. If activation is successful and the Destination Folder page appears, skip to step 14.
If automated activation of ACL Analytics is unsuccessful and the Manual Activation page appears, review the information on the page, which includes the reason automated activation was unsuccessful.
You need to obtain an activation key and manually activate ACL Analytics. Based on the information at the top of the Manual Activation page, do one of the following:
- To obtain an activation key using ACL’s self-serve web page, click ACL Analytics Activation Key Generator.
  
  A web page on the ACL Support Center opens with instructions for how to obtain an activation key.
- To contact ACL Support Services for an activation key, click Export Activation Information.
  
  The activation information is saved to a text file on your desktop (ACLActivation.txt), and is also copied into an email to ACL Support Services (requires Microsoft Outlook). ACL needs the activation information in order to issue you an activation key. If you do not have Microsoft Outlook installed, you can attach the text file to an email in another email client.
If you clicked ACL Analytics Activation Key Generator, do the following:
1. Follow the instructions on the web page that appears.
2. Once you have obtained an activation key, enter it in the Activation Key field and click Next.
If you clicked Export Activation Information, do the following:
1. Review and send the email to support@acl.com.
2. Once ACL has sent you the activation key, enter it in the Activation Key field and click Next.
  Note
  If you cancel the installation while you are waiting to receive the required activation key from ACL, you will need to start the installation again and enter the activation key when you are prompted for it in the Manual Activation page.
In the Destination Folder page, specify the locations where the ACL Analytics application files and the ACL Analytics sample data files will be installed. If necessary, click Change to modify either, or both, of the default locations and then click Next.
The location where you install the sample data files becomes the default ACL Analytics working directory.
In the Ready to Install the Program page, click Install.
When the installation process is complete, click Finish.
When you start ACL Analytics for the first time you may get the notification “ACL preferences file (.prf) not found”. The preferences file stores the settings for the configurable ACL Analytics options that appear in the Options dialog box ( Tools > Options). If necessary, recreate any customized settings you require in the Options dialog box.
