Installing ACL Network using the setup wizard

Note

You must have administrator rights on the computer on which you are installing ACL Network.

Follow the procedure below to use the ACL Network setup wizard to install ACL Network on a network server, on a personal computer available to all end users, or on individual personal computers. You have the option of also installing ACL Workstation on the same computer as ACL Network.

Before running the ACL Network setup wizard, you need to complete the following tasks:

To install ACL Network:

  1. Close all other Windows applications.
  2. Extract the ACL Network setup files by doing the following:
    1. Double-click ACLAnalytics105_Network_<edition>.exe.
    2. If a security warning dialog box is displayed, verify the information listed, and click Run.
    3. Select the language you want to use for your installation of ACL Network and click OK.
    4. In the Setup Extraction Location page, specify the folder where the installation files will be extracted, and click Extract.

You can click Browse to select a folder, or accept the default location (C:\Program Files\ACL Software\Installers\ACLAnalytics105_Network_<edition>).

On computers running 64-bit operating systems the default program folder used by ACL Network is C:\Program Files (x86)\

The setup files are extracted to the destination folder you specified. After the files are extracted the setup wizard starts automatically. If the setup wizard fails to start automatically for any reason, you can use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder where the setup files were extracted and double-click setup.exe.

If you are reinstalling ACL Network and the Overwrite Protection dialog box appears, click Yes to All.

  3. If you are prompted to install prerequisites, click Install. After the prerequisites are installed, the ACL Network installer automatically proceeds.
  4. In the Welcome page, click Next.
  5. In the License Agreement page, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
  6. In the Custom Setup page, do the following:
    1. Ensure that the ACL Analytics 10 entry does not have a red X beside it, indicating This feature will not be available. If necessary, click the drop-down arrow beside the entry and select This feature will be installed on local hard drive.
    2. If you need to change the default folder where ACL Network will be installed, click Change and select the appropriate folder. The default installation folder is C:\ACL Software\ACL Analytics 10.
  7. (Optional) If you want to install ACL Workstation on the same computer as ACL Network, do the following:
    1. Click the drop-down arrow beside the ACL Workstation entry and select This feature will be installed on local hard drive.
    2. If you need to change the default sample data files folder, click Change and select the appropriate folder. The default sample data files folder is C:\ACL DATA\Sample Data Files.
      Note

The sample data files folder is also the default ACL working directory.

If you choose to install ACL Workstation on the same computer as ACL Network, the ACL Workstation shortcut is created on the desktop of the computer. ACL Workstation will not function on this machine if you have also created the security directory on the same machine.

ACL Workstation can also be installed using the separate ACL Workstation setup wizard, or the silent installation procedure. For more information about ACL Workstation, see Overview.

  8. Click Next.
  9. In the Ready to Install the Program page, click Install.
  10. When the installation process is complete, click Finish.

The ACL Network application executable (ACLWin.exe) is installed to C:\ACL Software\ACL Analytics 10, or whatever installation folder you specified. If you chose to also install ACL Workstation on the same computer, the ACL Workstation shortcut appears on the desktop of the computer.

The installation folder includes the WS subfolder, which contains the ACL Workstation setup file. You can use this setup file to install ACL Workstation on the computer of any user who wants to run ACL Network.

  11. Copy the software key file (acl.ini) into the folder where you installed the ACL Network application executable.
    Important

acl.ini and ACLWin.exe must be in the same folder. If they are not in the same folder, users will not be able to use ACL Network.

  12. Ensure that all end users have the appropriate Windows permissions for the application executable folder, the WS subfolder, and the security directory folder. For more information, see Rights and permissions required by ACL Network.
