Generating reports using Crystal Reports templates

You can use ACL to generate reports with a custom Crystal Reports template. The design of your templates must be completed using the full version of the Crystal Reports application, but once the report templates are finalized you can generate reports using ACL and the Crystal Reports runtime components.

Note

Because the template references fields by name, the table you are generating the report from must have all of the field names used in the template. This means that you must choose a template created specifically for the table, or one that was created for another table but has the required field names.

To generate a Crystal report:

  1. Open a view and select Data > Crystal Reports > Update Template.
  2. In the From Report Template text box, enter the path and file name for the report you want to generate, or click Browse (...) to locate the report file (.rpt) in the Use Crystal Report Template dialog box and click Open.
  3. Click the Output tab.
  4. Select the appropriate output option in the To panel:
    • Screen – Select this option to display the results in the Crystal Reports Viewer or Crystal Reports (if installed).

    • Print – Select this option to send the results to the default printer.

    • File – Select this option to save the generated report to a report file (.rpt).

  5. If you selected File as the output type, specify the following information in the As panel:
    • Name – Enter the filename for the generated report in the Name text box.

You can also specify an absolute or relative file path, or navigate to a different folder, to save the report in a location other than the project location. For example: C:\Results\Output.rpt or Results\Output.rpt.

  6. If you want to add a header to your report, enter the header information in the text box. The header will only be displayed in the generated report if the ACL Header field is part of the report layout.
  7. If you want to add a footer to your report, enter the footer information in the text box. The footer will only be displayed in the generated report if the ACL Footer field is part of the report layout.
  8. Click OK.
