PAUSE command

Used to display information for users in a dialog box while pausing a script.

PAUSE message <IF test>

Specifies the string or Character expression, of up to 199 characters, to display in the dialog box. The message parameter must be enclosed in quotation marks. The quotation marks do not appear in the displayed message.

IF test

Optional. Specifies a condition that must be met. The command is executed on only those records that meet the condition.

You can use the PAUSE command to display read-only messages on screen in the course of running a script. You can display error messages or information such as the result of an analytic operation.

While the message dialog box is displayed, execution of the script is halted and only resumes once the user clicks OK to close the message dialog box. For this reason, you cannot use PAUSE in scripts or analytics that must run unattended.

The PAUSE command cannot be included inside the GROUP command, and is not supported in ACL Analytics Exchange analytics, or in ACL Server scripts.

If you want to include quotation marks in the message string, they cannot be identical to the quotation marks that enclose the message string. For example, if you enclose the message string using double quotation marks, you must use single quotation marks internally.

The following example displays the error message “The product class must be a 2-digit value.” in a dialog box.

PAUSE "The product class must be a 2-digit value."
