Using Add-In for Excel

Add-In for Excel is a plug-in that adds Analytics data investigation functionality and integration with the Diligent One Platform to Microsoft Excel. Add-In for Excel uses a single tab on the Excel Ribbon to group commands in a similar fashion to Excel.

Features and functionality

Protect data

Quickly and easily protect and format data, and prepare it for investigation by defining it as an Add-In for Excel table.

Audit tailored data analysis

Perform audit-specific operations such as summarizing, aging, and stratifying data, or adding computed columns for processing Add-In for Excel data using Excel formulas.

Random data sampling

Draw random samples from data, and use row statuses and row notes to keep track of the investigation.

Reporting and audit trails

  • Generate formatted reports of Add-In for Excel tables and table histories to use with working papers

  • Send or save Add-In for Excel or Excel tables

  • Attach data to Projects fieldwork or findings in Diligent One

  • Publish results to Results in Diligent One

  • Work with files from Analytics Exchange

Integration with Microsoft Excel functionality

You are not limited to using the ACL Add-In tab. You can also use many of the functions and options on the standard Excel tabs. However, because Add-In for Excel data is protected, Excel functions and options that alter data are disabled for cells that have been defined as part of an Add-In for Excel table.

Seamless transition from ACL Add-In functionality to native Excel functionality

  • Column headers in Add-In for Excel tables contain drop-down arrows for accessing standard Excel sorting and filtering.

  • When summarizing, aging, or stratifying data in an Add-In for Excel table, you have the option of outputting the results to a standard Excel PivotTable or PivotChart.

  • If you add a computed column to an Add-In for Excel table, the functionality is similar to adding a standard Excel calculated column to an Excel table. The main difference is that an Add-In for Excel computed column is part of the Add-In for Excel table, which means its data is protected, and column statistics are automatically displayed in the ACL Add-In panel.

  • You can apply standard Excel formatting to an Add-In for Excel table.

  • If you generate a formatted copy of an Add-In for Excel table for inclusion in working papers, you can make any modification to the formatted copy that you can make to a standard Excel worksheet.

  • You can use the Excel digital signature functionality to sign an Add-In for Excel table with a digital ID to protect the authenticity of a document.

You are free to work on Add-In for Excel and Excel worksheets in the same workbook. The two can function completely separately. At any time, you can define data in an Excel worksheet and convert it to an Add-In for Excel table.
