Configuring SAP ERP connections
The following sections provide general information about the SAP ERP connection configuration that needs to be completed before you can install AX Link.
Configuring the Direct Link add-on for the SAP ERP system
This setup is typically completed by your SAP Basis Administrator as part of the Direct Link installation and configuration. For more information, see “Installing the Direct Link add-on” in the Direct Link Desktop Edition Installation Guide.
Before proceeding with the AX Link installation, you should ensure that the Direct Link add-on configuration has been completed.
Configuring connections from AX Server
SAP GUI version 7.20, patch level 0 or later must be installed on each AX Server or AX Engine Node where you are installing AX Link.
When you install the SAP GUI, you need to install the following SAP Front-End components in the SAP Front-End Setup Wizard:
-
SAP GUI
-
SAP Logon Pad
-
SAP Logon
If you previously installed the SAP GUI on the server without the required components, you need to run the installer again and select these three required components.
After you install the SAP GUI, you must configure at least one connection to a SAP ERP system in the SAP Logon Pad, which is installed as part of the SAP GUI. If you do not complete the connection configuration, the AX Link setup wizard will fail with a “Could not write to SAPRFC.INI file” error message. If you encounter this error you must configure the connection information and then run the AX Link installer again.
Typically, SAP Basis Administrators maintain connection information for SAP ERP systems. Ask your SAP Basis Administrator to provide the necessary connection information, or have them configure the required system connections in the SAP Logon Pad. For more information on configuring system connections, see the SAP GUI Help.
Configuring ACL Analytics Exchange Geronimo service permissions
In order to run ACL Analytics Exchange analytics that include Direct Link-specific commands, the user account configured to run the ACL Analytics Exchange Geronimo service must have sufficient permissions to run saplogon.exe and sapgui.exe. Typically, this requires that Full Control permissions be assigned to the folder where these files are installed. The default location is C:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\SAPgui.
SAP GUI security settings
The default security settings for SAP GUI 7.20, or higher, impose new restrictions on where files can be uploaded or downloaded on the server, and dialog boxes may be displayed to show security warnings. In order to successfully run analytics on the server, you must customize your security configuration so that Direct Link files can be written to the server, and to prevent any security warning or status messages from being displayed on screen while analytics are being processed.
When analytics fail to run and you cannot identify an obvious cause in the dev_rfc.trc log file or in the ACL Analytics Exchange logs, it may be the because SAP GUI security messages are being displayed on the server while the analytic is running. If any SAP GUI message boxes are displayed during analytic processing, the security settings need to be adjusted. Information about the security changes to the SAP GUI application can be found in the SAP GUI for Windows 7.20 Security Guide. Contact ACL Support Services for general information about the options for modifying SAP GUI security settings to work with your ACL Analytics Exchange installation. You will need to work with your SAP Basis Administrator to determine the exact configuration required for your system.
