Upgrading to ACL Analytics Exchange version 5

You can upgrade directly to version 5 from version 4.x or 3.x. If you need to upgrade AX Server from a version prior to version 3.x, contact ACL Support Services for additional instructions, and the required installation files and documentation.

If you have AX Exception installed on the same server as AX Server, you must back up and uninstall AX Exception before upgrading AX Server. For more information, see “Chapter 2: Upgrading AX Exception” in the AX Exception Installation Guide.

Before you begin the upgrade process you should back up your existing configuration in case you need to restore your original previous version installation. You should shut down the AX Core Server services and complete the following backup steps:

  1. Ensure that you have a current backup of your AX Server database.

  2. Copy the contents of the App\geronimo\var\config subfolder where the AX Server application server is installed.

  3. Copy the contents of the datafiles subfolder. The default location is the Data\repository\datafiles subfolder where the AX Server application server is installed. You can check the dataFilePath property in the aclAuditExchange.xml file for the location of this folder.

After you complete the backup, you need to restart the AX Server services in Windows Services before proceeding with the upgrade.

The following sections list the tasks you need to complete for each of the supported configurations of AX Server.

PostgreSQL platform upgrade

Complete the following procedures if your installation of ACL Analytics Exchange uses PostgreSQL as the database platform:

  1. Run the PostgreSQL setup wizard upgrade to the new PostgreSQL database server version and migrate your data from the existing PostgreSQL database server. For details, see Installing or upgrading ACL Analytics Exchange PostgreSQL.

  2. Run the AX Server setup wizard to upgrade the AX Server application server. For details see, Upgrading AX Server for PostgreSQL.

  3. Run the AX Engine Node setup wizard to upgrade any instances of AX Engine Node. For details, see Upgrading AX Engine Node for PostgreSQL to version 5.

Oracle platform upgrade

Complete the following procedures if your installation of ACL Analytics Exchange uses Oracle as the database platform:

  1. Run the AX Server setup wizard to upgrade the AX Server application server. For details, see Upgrading AX Server for Oracle.

  2. Run the AX Engine Node setup wizard to upgrade any instances of AX Engine Node. For details, see Upgrading AX Engine Node for Oracle to version 5.
