Does my iOS device support multitasking?
Version 2.4 of Boards iOS adds support for Split View multitasking, letting you use other applications (including email and Diligent Messenger) alongside your board materials. Split View multitasking is a recent addition to the suite of iPad features, and requires a recent iPad running a recent version of iOS to function.
What version of iOS do I need?
Multitasking only works on iOS 9 or later.
What kind of iPad do I need?
The iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro and later all support Split View multitasking. Some earlier iPads — the iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3 and iPad Air — support a simpler version of multitasking called Slide Over. Slide Over only lets you check other apps, but not use both at once. Diligent Boards only supports Split View multitasking.
How can I tell which iPad I have?
Look on the back of your iPad for some small print at the bottom center of the device (near the charging port). Somewhere in this text you should see the word Model followed by a five-character code. This code will tell you which model of iPad you have, and if it supports Split View multitasking:
-
iPad Pro A1584, A1652, A1673, A1674, A1675
-
iPad Air 2 A1566, A1567
-
iPad Mini 4 A1538, A1550
If your model number does not match any of the above, it might still support Split View if it is newer than this document. Check Apple's iPad identification page to see if your device was made after 2015 (when Split View was introduced), or contact Diligent Global Support for more information.
What other apps work with multitasking?
iPad apps must be specifically designed to support Split View. We find most users prefer using Diligent Boards in Split View next to:
-
Apple's built-in Mail app
-
Safari, the built-in Web browser
-
Diligent Messenger
You may need to check with an app's creator, or your IT department, to see if a specific non-Diligent app supports Split View multitasking.
