ESG Insights toolkit
ESG Insights is a pre-configured toolkit that helps you assess the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) health of your organization. You can view curated news stories, track and trend your ESG health scores over time, and make adjustments to your ESG program accordingly. You can also benchmark your organization's ESG performance against peers in the industry.
How it works
You can use the ESG Insights toolkit to gain a comprehensive view of your organization's ESG health. You begin by installing the ESG Insights toolkit. After the installation, configure the robot task by entering the required parameters and run the robot task. After the robot has run successfully, the Diligent One Results tables get populated with ESG data of your organization.

After the ESG Insights Reporting robot task has run successfully, you can go to the Results app and view the populated ESG data of your organization.
Perform the following steps to view the results:
- Open the Results app.
- Open the ESG Insights Reporting collection.
- Open ESG Health Scores and ESG Media Coverage tables to view the results.
4. Create visualizations
After the tables—ESG Health Scores and ESG Media Coverage—are populated with ESG data of your organization, you can build visualizations on top of these tables.
Things to consider when creating visualizations
You must keep in mind the following when building the ESG health score visualizations:
- Source data The ESG data populated in the Results tables comes from Diligent Governance Intel. The ESG Insights Reporting robot does not change or transform any of the health score data that is provided by the Diligent Governance Intel API.
- Data availability The health scores provided by Diligent Governance Intel reflect the media coverage received by the company. Companies that are not the frequent subject of media coverage may not have health data available for each pillar or topic, and in some rare cases, a company health score may not be available at all. Also, the ESG Health Score table shows only ESG pillars or topics of a company that have data available.
- Deciding which data to visualize You must build visualizations depending on the frequency of media coverage that your company gets in a pillar or topic. If your company receives frequent coverage in one area, it is better to create visualizations for that pillar or topic. Likewise, you can keep a low priority for pillars or topics that receive a low volume of media coverage.
Tip
Use the ESG Media Coverage table to get a sense of data volume for specific pillars or topics.
ESG Health Scores
The ESG Health Scores table contains three types of health scores:
- Health Score refers to the overall ESG health score of your organization.
- Pillar Health Score refers to the pillar-specific health score of your organization. There are four ESG pillars as defined by the World Economic Forum: Planet, Governance, Prosperity, and People.
- Topic Health Score refers to the topic-specific health score of your organization. Each ESG pillar contains numerous ESG topics such as Climate Change, Diversity and Inclusion, Human Rights, etc.
Based on the health scores, you can create different types of visualizations.
ESG Health Score Visualization Examples
Overall ESG Health Score
Your company is tracking the ESG health performance against the industry average. To do this, you create a grouped bar chart that shows your organization's ESG health score in comparison to the industry average. Select the following columns in the visualization:
- X-Axis: Company Name
- Y-Axis: #Health Score
- Color by: Company Name
Pillar-wise Health Score
Your company is tracking the pillar-wise ESG health score against the industry average. To do this, you create a grouped column chart that shows your organization's ESG pillar-wise health score in comparison to the industry average. Select the following columns in the visualization:
- X-Axis: Pillar
- Y-Axis: #Pillar Health Score
- Color by: Company Name
Topic-wise Health Score
Your company is tracking the topic-wise ESG health score and how it affects the overall ESG score over a period of time. To do this, you create a combination chart that shows your organization's topic-wise health scores in comparison to the overall ESG score. Select the following columns in the visualization:
- X-Axis: Time period
- Y-Axis: #Topic Health Score
- Line: #Health Score
- Color by: Topic
Tip
Filter the data set to specific topics of interest to produce less cluttered visuals.
For more information about visualizations, see Visualizing table data in charts.
ESG Media Coverage
The ESG Media Coverage table contains news stories about ESG in relation to your organization and industry. These news stories are the building blocks that are used to determine the health scores that appear in the ESG Health Score table.
You can filter the news stories by pillar or topic to see how much coverage they have received. You can also filter by company or industry to see their respective news coverage.
The ESG Media Coverage table contains an interpretation called ESG Media Article Feed, which can be used as-is or modified as per your requirement. This interpretation contains story health scores and story headlines based on each ESG pillar.
