Managing relationships in Asset Inventory

You can create custom, ad-hoc relationships between assets and other assets, asset records and other asset records, or assets and asset records. This way, you can add context to your assets and asset records, and perform your risk management more holistically.

These relationships can be directional, where the related objects have different labels (e.g., one says "impacts" and the other says "impacted by"), or they can be parallel (e.g., both say "connected to").

Configuring custom relationships

Contact your Diligent representative to configure the custom relationships your organization needs. These relationships specify which asset types and asset record types can be linked to each other. Then, you can go into individual assets and asset records and define specific relationships between them.

Managing relationships

After your Diligent representative has helped you configure your organization's custom relationships, you can start using those relationships to link your assets and asset records with each other.

  1. Open the asset or asset record you want to create a relationship from.
  2. Click the Details tab. If the asset or asset record is configured to have custom relationships, this tab contains a section that shows existing relationships, and where you can add and remove relationships.
  3. Add or remove relationships as required.
    • To add a relationship, click the Add icon . Select a relationship type (e.g., "impacts"), select the asset or asset record you want to link to the current asset or asset records, and click Link.
    • To remove a relationship, locate the asset or asset record you want to unlink, and click Unlink beside it.

Result The list of related assets or asset records updates accordingly. You can click on the names of related assets or asset records to open them.
