Adding a welcome message to the BoardEffect home page

You can add a new message in the Welcome section, located on the My BoardEffect page. Users see the message when they sign in to BoardEffect. This topic describes how to add a new welcome message.

  1. To open the Welcome message, select the pencil on the top left of the My BoardEffect page.

  2. Use the Welcome Text field to enter a message. You can also copy and paste text in the field.

  3. To edit the content, select an option from the toolbar.

  4. To import a photo, select the image icon. For more information, see Add an image.

  5. To save your changes and update the welcome message, select Save.

Add a link

You can add a link to the welcome message, so users can quickly access files in the library.

  1. To view files, select Libraries on the top right.

  2. Select the arrow on the right side of a file, then select Copy Link from the menu.

  3. Close the Library page, and then select the pencil to open the welcome message.

  4. To add a link, select the Link icon in the toolbar.

  5. From the Link dialog box, select the URL field, and then select the link that appears in the menu.

  6. To save your changes, select OK.

Add a table

You can add a table to the welcome message.

  1. To open the welcome message, select the pencil on the top left of the My BoardEffect page.

  2. Select the Table icon in the toolbar.

  3. From the Table Properties modal, enter the number of Rows and Columns.

  4. Use the Width field to enter the width of the table.

  5. You can also enter the optional fields:

    • Headers
    • Boarder size
    • Cell spacing
    • Cell padding
    • Alignment
    • Caption
    • Summary
  6. Select the Advanced tab to enter advanced settings, such as the Id and Stylesheet Classes.

  7. Select OK to add the table in the welcome message.

  8. Enter content in the blank cells, then select Save.

  9. To edit the table, right-click, then select Table Properties from the menu.

  10. To delete the table, right-click, then select Delete Table from the menu.

Add an image

You can add an image to the welcome message. You can customize the image properties, including the shape, location, border, and size.

  1. To open the welcome message, select the pencil on the top left of the My BoardEffect page.

  2. To add an image, select the image icon in the toolbar.

  3. Use the Image Properties modal to upload an image and apply custom settings. To begin, select the Upload tab, and then select Choose File.

  4. Select Send it to the server to generate a source URL for the image.

  5. Select the Image Info tab to view the source URL in the URL field.

  6. You can compare the image size, border, and alignment to sample text in the Preview field.

  7. To increase the width of the image, use the Width field.

  8. To increase the height, use the Height field.

  9. Enter a number in the Border field to add a border around the image.

  10. To add space above and below the image, use the HSpace field.

  11. To add space on the right and left side of the image, use the VSpace field.

  12. You can change where the image is placed by selecting Left or Right from the Alignment menu.

  13. To save and finish adding your image, select OK.

  14. To edit an image, right-click it in the welcome message, and then select Image Properties from the menu.

Edit an image

Use the Image Properties modal to edit an image in the welcome message. You can add a boarder, adjust the size, or add advanced CSS style elements.

  1. To open the Image Properties modal, right-click an image in the welcome message, and then select Image Properties from the menu.

  2. Use the options in the modal to edit your image. Select a tab on top of the modal to view options.

  3. To save and apply your changes, select OK.

The web address of the image. BoardEffect supports local and external URLs.

Alternative Text

A description of the image for a person who uses an assistive device, such as a screen reader.

Width

The width of the image in pixels.

Height

The height of the image in pixels.

Border

A solid border around the outside of an image.

HSpace

The amount of space on the right and left side of an image.

VSpace

The amount of space on the top and bottom of an image.

Alignment

The location of the image. You can align it on the left or right side of the welcome message.

Preview

A preview of your image with sample text.

Link

Target

The type of window or page where image links open.

Upload

Choose File

The option to select an image file from your computer.

Advanced

Id

A unique identifier for the link element (an Id attribute).

Language Direction

The direction of text.

Language Code

The language of the link element.

Long Description URL

The web address with a longer description of the image.

Stylesheet Classes

The class of the link element.

Advisory Title

A description that appears when you hover over a link.

Style

The CSS style definitions.

Add a video

You can add a video to the welcome message by embedding the source code from a hosting site, such as YouTube or Vimeo.

  1. Select a video hosting site, then copy the embed code.

    • To view the YouTube embed code, right-click the video, then select Copy Embed Code from the list.

    • To view the Vimeo embed code, select Embed on the left navigation pane, then select Embed Code on the top right.

  2. To open the welcome message, first sign in to BoardEffect, and then select the pencil on the top left of the page.

  3. Select Source from the toolbar.

  4. Paste the embed code in the Welcome Text field.

  5. Select Save to add the video to the welcome message.

  6. To edit the video, right-click on the IFrame placeholder, and then select Frame Properties from the menu.

  7. From the IFrame Properties modal, use the Width and Height fields to modify the size of your video.

  8. Select an option from the Alignment menu to change the location of the video.

  9. Select the Advanced tab to enter advanced settings, such as the Id and Stylesheet Classes.

  10. To save your changes, select Save.
