Create a Doing Business As Data Library

If a proposed business name is identical to a registered business name, it is necessary to ensure that details of the registered business name are recorded in a related Doing Business As (DBA) data library.

Note

ASIC provides online access to a business name register where you can find information regarding registered or cancelled business names, and check the availability of your proposed business name. For more information visit ASIC's website.

To create a Doing Business As data library:

  1. Open the company record.

  2. Select Data Library and select New.

  3. Select Doing Business As for type.

The page updates to show the relevant fields.

  4. In the Summary section, select a status and assign the data library to someone to manage it.

  5. Complete the Doing Business As section.

Enter the name that was proposed when either creating a new incorporation or name reservation. Make sure to include legal identifiers such as Ltd. in the name.

In the Business No/Reg No. field, enter the identifier that ASIC provided upon acceptance of the original name registration. This identifier acts as the reference to the registered business name and is recalled for e-filing purposes when completing either a 410 or a 201 form.

  6. In the Attachments section, you can upload the paper copy of the name reservation form.

  7. Save the data library.

When you create a 410 or a 201 form, the relevant section is populated with the data you entered in the data library.
