Terminology

Diligent ESG’s naming conventions follow international standards:

  • Activity Refers to an emission generating business activity such as business travel or electricity consumption. Each activity or meter must be associated with a building.

  • Activity data Refers to quantities of consumption for a given activity such as 1000 miles’ business travel flight or 1000 kWh electricity consumption. Each activity data record is associated with an activity or meter.

  • Facility Each building has a facility and can be assigned a parent entity in the organizational structure.

  • Scopes Structure used to categorize the different kinds of emissions a company creates during its operations and wider supply chain.

  • Location-based Refers to what emissions your company physically consumes at your operation facilities, based on the power grid’s average emission intensity. This is valid only for Scope 2 emissions reporting.

  • Market-based Refers to what emissions are associated with the energy that your company purchases, taking into account the emission intensity of different energy sources. This is valid only for Scope 2 emissions reporting.
