Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic
Galvanize has worked diligently on our business continuity and our response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the process, we developed a methodology supported by three customizable toolkits and a framework that can be used in the HighBond software platform. The toolkits and the framework are available to all customers for free because we believe this is the right thing to do. With some customization, you can adapt the toolkits and the framework to your organization's specific needs.
This guide explains how you can use ACL Robotics and HighBond to monitor the evolving COVID-19 crisis, and your organization's reopening or return to office, while properly identifying and mitigating the associated risks.
A methodology with two components
The COVID-19 response methodology that we developed has two main components:
- data pipeline an automated data pipeline of authoritative COVID-19 case data and regulatory information
- pandemic response plan a pandemic risk-and-response-management framework with associated assessment questionnaires
You can choose to implement both components, or only one of them, depending on your organization's current requirements and capabilities.
Toolkits and a framework
Three toolkits and a framework, deployed across several apps in the HighBond software platform, support the two components of the methodology. The toolkits and the framework are completely independent of one another. No dependencies exist between them. You can choose to install only one toolkit or the framework, or you can install them all, depending on your organization's goals.

These prerequisites must be in place before you can use the COVID-19 toolkits or framework. To avoid problems installing and configuring toolkit components, read and understand the prerequisites that are outlined in this section.
Summary of prerequisites
- Subscription The toolkit and framework content is free. However, you must have a subscription to the appropriate Galvanize product or products in order to be able to access and use the content.
- Permissions The easiest way to complete the end-to-end installation and configuration of any of the toolkits is to be assigned the System Admin role with a Professional subscription type. Other roles and subscription types can view or interact with toolkit components once the components are installed and configured.
You can use ACL Robotics Professional Edition to implement the COVID-19 toolkits. However, usage restrictions associated with this edition may prevent you from scaling your implementation, or using Robots or Results for other purposes.
The following usage restrictions apply:
- Automated robots You can enable tasks in only 1 robot at a time (1 "automated robot" at a time). The automated data pipeline and the aggregated regulatory feed each use a separate robot, so you have to choose which one to automate.
Automate the automated data pipeline robot, and schedule it to run daily. When you want to update the aggregated regulatory feed, temporarily disable the task in the automated data pipeline robot, enable the task in the aggregated regulatory feed robot, and run it manually. Once the task has run, reverse the process and re-enable the task in the automated data pipeline robot.
- Results tables You are limited to 5 user-created tables in Results. Tables created by the COVID toolkits are allowed to exceed this limit, however they consume the allowable number of user-created tables. After installing the toolkits, you cannot create any more tables in Results.
Create up to 5 user-created tables first, before you install the first toolkit.
The table restriction applies to customers who have a standalone ACL Robotics Professional Edition subscription. Customers who have a HighBond subscription with ACL Robotics Professional Edition as an add-on are not subject to the restriction.
Details of prerequisites
The tools in the COVID-19 toolkits and framework are distributed among several integrated Galvanize software components. The software components available to you depend on the editions of HighBond and ACL Robotics that your organization subscribes to, and your subscription type.
For a partial implementation of the COVID-19 response methodology, you do not require all the software components listed below. For example, if you are primarily interested in the automated data pipeline, you only need an ACL Robotics subscription.
If you are primarily interested in monitoring the evolving organizational risks associated with the pandemic, you only need a subscription to HighBond.

The easiest way to complete the end-to-end workflow of setting up the data automation, or building the response plan, is to be assigned the System Admin role and a Professional subscription type in Launchpad. Launchpad is a single, central location for accessing and managing everything related to your HighBond account.
At least one person in your organization must be a System Admin.
System Admins with a Professional subscription type are automatically granted Admin privileges in all HighBond apps.
Given the nature of the pandemic, and the chance of a System Admin getting sick, designate at least one other person as a System Admin. This person should not work directly with the main System Admin.
Required permissions per HighBond app
Permissions are specific to each HighBond app. You can have varying permissions in different apps. You do not need to be a System Admin with a Professional subscription as described above, but to complete the workflow described in this guide, you must be assigned the minimum required permission (role or privilege) in each app that you work with:

What you are building
The COVID-19 response methodology is supported by an integrated suite of Galvanize software components.
You can choose to implement all aspects of the response methodology, or implement only part of the methodology depending on your organization's current requirements and capabilities.
For example, you may be interested primarily in the automated data pipeline. Or you may be interested in planning for and managing the evolving organizational risks associated with the pandemic and reopening or return to office.
You can also implement part of the methodology now, and the rest later.
This guide is organized in clearly marked topics and sections that support you as you use Galvanize software components to build whatever piece or pieces of the response methodology you decide to implement.
The overall workflow
Let's take a closer look at the overall workflow supporting the pandemic response methodology. If you're an experienced user of HighBond or ACL Robotics, at least some of this workflow will look familiar. If you're new to this, don't worry. We'll walk you through each step.
What is happening in each part of the workflowSet up data automation
In a quickly evolving situation like the COVID-19 pandemic, reliable and continuously updated data and information is critical. Two of the COVID-19 toolkits construct an automated data pipeline with regularly updated case data and regulatory information. Analytic scripts in the toolkits are scheduled and run in Robots. Tables output by the scripts are exported to Results for viewing, and visualization in Storyboards.
Galvanize provides the scripts in the toolkits so you can start using them right away for the import and processing of authoritative COVID-19 case data and regulatory information. Even better, we provide a tool that automates most of the installation and configuration of the automated data pipeline and aggregated regulatory feed, so you can get up and running with a minimum of effort.
Build a pandemic response plan
To identify pandemic response objectives, threat levels/risks, and response effectiveness, you can access the pandemic risk-and-response-management framework in the Projects app. You can use the framework to build out individual projects, where you can execute your work. Projects can be linked to collections in the Results app, allowing you to consolidate information and inform assessments.
Present a data story
Some default interpretations and visualizations are built for you as part of the toolkit installations. You are free to modify the default content to better suit your organization's needs, or you can build new interpretations or visualizations. For example, you could create interpretations or visualization that focus on only those jurisdictions where your organization has offices.
