Special Purpose charts in Reports

Special Purpose charts enable you to report on multivariate data.

Available charts

Icon Chart name Description
Funnel Chart often used to represent stages in a sales process, and to identify potential problem areas in an organization's sales process
Proportional Infographic displays segments on an image, with the segment size representing metric value
Comparative Infographic displays a series of images sized to correspond with the values of a given metric
Radar displays multivariate data in the form of a two-dimensional chart of three or more quantitative variables on axes starting from the same point
Waterfall displays the cumulative effect of sequentially introduced positive or negative values
Event used to map the occurrence of events against the values of a numeric data set over time
Week Density used to display the density of an occurrence or metric value based on an hour, relative to other times in the same day of the week
Digital Numeric Display displays the value of a metric on a digital display
Numeric Display shows the total value of the field

When do you use them?

  • Proportional Infographic and Comparative Infographic use images to display metrics.
  • Event, Waterfall, or Week Density charts allow you to report on values of a numeric data set over a given period of time.
  • Radar charts are used for showing outliers, commonality, and ordinal measurements.

Example

Digital Numeric Display

Your organization is tracking project data and needs to determine the total number of key controls in the organization. Using a digital numeric display chart, you clearly demonstrate the number of key controls in the organization:

Chart configuration settings

Depending on the Special Purpose chart selected, settings may vary.

Note

The Reports interface prevents you from using data types that are unsupported and from building charts that do not include the mandatory settings.

On the Chart tab, configure the following settings:

Setting Description
Horizontal Axis the field to use as the basis for the chart's horizontal scale
Vertical Axis

the field to use as the basis for the chart's vertical scale

Color

the field represented by the third data dimension to the chart

Adding a third data dimension can sub-divide Horizontal Axis categories. You can think of the Color field as a break field.

Size

the numeric field to use to determine the size of individual data points

An increase in size indicates an increase in quantity or value.

Animation

the datetime field used to animate the chart

Each value of the animation field generates a unique frame in the animation.

Note

To provide a label for each frame, format the chart title to display the animation field.

Image the background image that you want to use to display your data
Measure the series to be used for measurement
Tool Tip the label to be displayed when you roll over your mouse on specific data points
Label the label to be displayed when you roll over your mouse on specific data points
Radar the category field used for the radar spokes
Events binary values that signify if the event was occurring on each of the time values
Auto Refresh

turned on by default

If you turn off this setting, you disable the chart preview and stop querying the database after each field change.
