Managing Branch Records

Often, the Legal Entities that fall within SMCR or other Regimes are Branches of Foreign Financial Companies operating within the UK.

As Branches do not typically have their own appointments, it is recommended that Branches are entered into Diligent Entities as Other Entities, of Type Branch Office.

To facilitate the mapping of Functions for a Branch, under any Regime, link the relevant Management Committee to the Branch record. This allows for appointments entered into the Committee record to be searchable in the Mapping Tool > People > Appointments area in the Branch record.

To do this:

  • Locate and open the required Branch record.
  • On the Details page, select Edit.
  • Scroll down to the Significant Control section.
  • Locate the field 'Committee' and select the Wand icon on the right-hand side.
  • The Select Entity Wizard will be displayed.
  • Enter all or part of the name of the Committee into the Contains field and select Search.
  • The search results appear as shown below. Select the correct Committee from the list, then select Next.
  • The Committee will then display as the selected Entity for you to confirm. To change your selection to a different Committee, use the Eraser icon to clear the selection and search again.
  • If your desired Committee does not already exist within the system, you can use this Wizard to create the required Committee record before continuing with the process.
  • Select the Entity Type that you want to create using the Search dropdown list, then select the New This will open the New Company, Individual or Other Entity Wizard. Complete the Wizard, and you will have the new Committee available in the system.
  • Otherwise, select Finish.

The selected Committee will then be displayed on screen.

  • Select Save.
  • Navigate to the SMCR section of the Branch record by selecting the SMCR icon on the Banner. The Mapping Tool page will be displayed.
  • Select the Double Chevron icon (as shown above) to reveal the People/Responsibility area.

    Note that a Regime and Filing record must be created first.

  • The Search In field in the People section defaults to Appointments.
  • Select the Search icon to display Appointments for the Committee record (for example, Management Committee London Branch) to facilitate the Functions mapping in the Branch record.
