Configuring ACL Analytics Exchange authentication

Authentication can be configured in two distinct ways to authenticate users logging in to ACL Analytics Exchange applications.

  1. Form-based Authentication – This is a basic type of authentication where users are presented with a login page when authentication is required. The same login page is presented whether they are logging in to AX Client, AX Web Client, or AX Exception. The user is required to authenticate their account information by entering their username and password each time a new session starts. A new session is created each time the AX Client is started, or when an ACL Analytics Exchange web application is accessed in a new browser window.

  2. Integrated Windows Authentication – This type of authentication is more complicated to set up, but once the necessary configuration has been completed it is more convenient for end-users. It is sometimes called “silent authentication” because the user authentication process is handled by the Windows operating system without prompting the user for their login information. The account information the user enters when they log in to Windows is used to authenticate their access to ACL Analytics Exchange applications when their credentials are required. If the user cannot be successfully authenticated using Integrated Windows Authentication, they will be presented with the login page used for form-based authentication.

You are required to choose the type of authentication you are going to use when you set up AX Server, but you can switch between the two authentication options at any time.
