Administration > Configuring AX Client

Configuring AX Client

Change the connection settings, redefine the ACL Analytics executable and working folder, or change the temporary file folder to customize your AX Client configuration.

Change the connection settings

Note

You should not change the connection settings unless asked to do so by your AX Server administrator.

  1. To display the Server preferences page, from the menu, select Tools > Options and then click Server.
  2. In the Server Address field, enter the new hostname for AX Server.

The default data transfer port is 443. If your administrator configures a different data transfer port, use the following syntax in the Server Address field to specify the non-default value: hostname:port_number.

  3. In the Port field, enter the HTTPS connection port and then click OK.

The connection port must match the HTTPS port specified by your AX Server administrator. This is not the same port as the data transfer port. The default value is 443.

  4. To trust self-signed security certificates installed on AX Server instead of using a Certificate Authority (CA) certificate, select Trust self-signed certificates.

    Note

Both self-signed certificates and CA-issued certificates ensure that the data transferred between AX Server and client applications cannot be easily accessed by a third party, however when you purchase a CA certificate you gain additional trust because an independent, trustworthy certificate authority validates the server's authenticity.

Update the ACL Analytics settings

Note

If you move your ACL Analytics executable after installing AX Client, you must reconfigure the executable location setting.

  1. From the menu, select Tools > Options and then click ACL Analytics.
  2. To update the settings, do any of the following and then click OK:

Change the AX Client temporary file folder

When you open non-ACL items and ACL logs from the Server Explorer, they are saved to a temporary folder on your local computer and then opened in the file type's associated application.

  1. From the menu, select Tools > Options and then click Client.
  2. In the Client preferences page, enter the full path of the Windows folder to use as the temporary folder, or click Browse and select the folder.

    Note

By default, temporary files are saved to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp. The logged-in user always has the necessary permissions to read and write to this folder. If you want to change the temporary file folder, ensure that the logged in user can read and write to the new folder.

  3. To save the change, click OK.
