ACL Analytics Exchange Server installation overview

This guide provides detailed information about installing and performing the initial configuration of ACL Analytics Exchange Server (AX Server) and ACL Analytics Exchange Engine Node (AX Engine Node).

AX Server has two main components: a database and an application server. The database can be hosted on either a PostgreSQL database server or an Oracle database server. The Geronimo application server includes a web server used to access the applications, security management, and it enables various internal parts of the system to communicate.

If you use PostgreSQL as the database platform, you have the option to install both components on a single server, or on separate servers for enhanced system performance and security. If you use Oracle as the database platform, the application server must be installed on a separate server from the database server. The configuration your organization should select depends on multiple factors including server resources available, the number of users accessing the system, and the volume and complexity of the analytics processed by the system.

AX Engine Node is an optional add-on component that can be installed on one or more additional servers dedicated to processing analytics. AX Engine Node cannot, and should not, be installed on the same physical server as AX Server.

The following sections describe the supported installation scenarios:

  • Upgrading to version 5 – If you have an existing release 4.x or 3.x installation you want to upgrade, the setup wizard can upgrade to the latest version.

  • AX Server for PostgreSQL installation – If you want to use PostgreSQL as the database platform for AX Server, this section provides instructions for setting up AX Server and PostgreSQL on the same server, or for setting up the AX Server application server on one server and the PostgreSQL database engine on a separate server.

  • AX Server for Oracle installation – If you want to use Oracle as the database platform for AX Server, this section provides instructions for setting up the AX Server application server. The AX Server cannot be installed on the same server as the Oracle database server.

  • AX Engine Node installation – You can optionally install one or more instances of AX Engine Node if you want to use dedicated servers to process ACL Analytics Exchange analytics. Analytic servers can be installed as an add-on for either the PostgreSQL or Oracle implementation of AX Server.

Required permissions

In order to perform the installation, configuration, or upgrade of any AX Server or AX Engine Node component you must have Administrator rights on the server or servers where the component is being installed or upgraded.
