Viewing robot tasks and task runs

You can view robot tasks and task runs globally for your organization's Robots instance, or locally inside each robot, on a per-robot basis. From a global view, click any task or task run to go directly to the details screen for the item at the robot level.

Robots gives you these options for viewing tasks and task runs:

Note

Global views in Robots are not available if your Diligent One instance uses AWS GovCloud, or if it is located in the Africa (South Africa) region. A technical limitation prevents including the views.

What is the difference between a task and a task run?

A task is a single object contained in a robot. You create and configure a task to run one or more scripts in the robot. Each time that a task runs, a new, unique task run is created.

A single task typically has multiple associated task runs. A task run may include output results such as tables or files. These output results are unique to each task run.

When you create a new task, it is added to the Tasks global view and the Tasks tab in the robot.

Every time that a task runs, a new task run is created and added to the Task runs global view and the Task runs tab in the robot. A new task run is created even if the task fails or is skipped.

Task run history and status

You can view the history and status of task runs globally, or locally at the individual robot level. Task run entries display a range of information, including:

  • start date and time
  • duration
  • run method (manual, scheduled, or part of a task sequence)
  • identity of the user who ran the task
  • current or completed task run status
Global icon or description Local icon Task run status

running Running/In progress

Success

Failed

Possible cause: The script in the task failed and did not run to completion.

Skipped

Possible cause: The task was in a Queued status for too long.

Tasks can exceed the expiry time of the Queued status if too many tasks are running simultaneously. For more information, see Robots specifications and limits.

For ACL robots, another reason a task is skipped is that the on-premise Robots Agent is offline. For more information, see Installing or upgrading an on-premise Robots Agent.

Cancelled

Cause: Someone manually canceled the task.

View all tasks in Robots
