Importing Tenable data into Asset Manager

After activating the Tenable connection, you can start importing vulnerability data into Asset Manager. This integration provides you with real-time insights into your security posture, enabling you to prioritize vulnerabilities based on their risk levels.

Important

Tenable VM integration with Asset Manager is available through the Early Adopter Program. If you want to opt in, contact your Diligent representative.

Importing data

You can import Tenable data into Asset Manager using two methods: Manual and Automatic.

Note

The Permissions, Import, and General tabs, as well as the Vulnerability Details page, become available after you activate your Tenable account in Asset Manager. For information about activating, see Activating your Tenable VM account.

Manual Import

  1. Open the Asset Manager app.
  2. On the left hand side, select the expand button to open the side panel.
  3. Select VulnerabilitiesSettings > Import tab.
  4. Select the severity levels of the items to be imported.
By default, critical and high are selected.
  5. Select Start Manual Import to begin the import process.

    Result

    • A blue-outlined text box displays the progress of the import, showing the date and time it started.

    • A green-outlined text box appears if the import is successful, along with the time log.

    • A red-outlined text box appears if the import fails, with a link to download the error report and the time log.

Note

The Start Manual Import button is deactivated while an import is in progress.

Automatic Import

  1. Open the Asset Manager app.
  2. On the left hand side, select the expand button to open the side panel.
  3. Select VulnerabilitiesSettings > Import tab.
  4. Select the severity levels of the items to be imported.
By default, critical and high are selected.
  5. In the Frequency list, select Daily and select Save Changes.

Result The schedule is saved, and the import will happen every day.

Note

The exact timing of the import depends on the server's geographical location, so the precise time may vary. However, the imported data will be available after every 24 hours from the time the schedule is saved. For example: If you saved the automatic import at 10 AM, then fresh data will be available the next day at 10 AM.

Import process schedule

The import process has the following schedule:

  • First import When the data import process runs for the first time, it will import all available data from the past two years.
  • Subsequent imports After the initial import, each following import will only bring in data that has changed or been added since the last import up to the current time.

What is imported?

The following items are imported when you import data from Tenable:

  • Discrete assets Assets imported from Tenable are called discrete assets (assets in the Asset Manager are called aggregated assets). For more information, seeDiscrete assets in Asset Manager.

    Note

When importing, if an asset is deleted in Tenable, it is removed from Asset Manager as well, along with associated discrete assets and its findings. The Discrete Assets list displays only active assets from Tenable.

  • Vulnerabilities / findings Weaknesses or flaws related to the assets. For more information, see Tenable findings in Asset Manager.
  • Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) Standardized identifiers used to reference and track specific vulnerabilities. For more information, see Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) in Asset Manager.
